A 37 year-old woman remains behind bars this morning on charges that she backed over, and killed her father when he tried to prevent her from driving drunk.

Police say the now defendant, Soukvilay Barton, had been drinking with family members at her parents house last weekend.  At some point in the evening she decided to head home, but her father didn't want her driving while she was under the influence.

He even went so far as to follow her out to the driveway as she was getting into her car.  When that didn't work he stood directly behind her vehicle in hopes of stopping her.

That, according to the police report, is when she backed over him.

Riverside say they aren't sure whether the accident was in fact an accident or if it was intentional, but regardless, the woman was arrested and taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center in order to be booked and processed.

Barton is being charged with gross vehicular manslaughter, a DUI that caused great bodily harm and a DUI with an injury, all of which are felonies.

What is unique in this case, though, is that her bail bonds have been set at just $75,000, which is very, very low considering the charges and the circumstances.

Most people who are arrested and charged with this type of crime in California have bail amounts that span well over $1 million.
