Suspected Drunk Driver Hits SDPD Squad Car At Checkpoint

A San Diego resident's bad night got a heck of a lot worse last weekend after they crashed their car into a SDPD police cruiser at a Pacific Beach checkpoint.

Two other cars were also struck during the accident, according to a department spokesperson.  No one was injured, they said, although the driver was taken into custody and charged with felony drunk driving.

Although most first-time DUI arrests in San Diego require the defendant post $2,500 bail bonds in order to be released from custody that bail amount can jump to $100,000 or more if the driver was in an accident.

Medical marijuana activists say it all started with a hemp bracelet.

In 2013, an delivery driver for a local marijuana dispensary service was pulled over by the San Diego Sheriff's Department due to an issue with one of his tail lights.  And at the time the deputy was asking him for his license, insurance and registration, he saw the driver was wearing a hemp bracelet.

Will Christmas Eve Murder Suspect Get Bail

On Saturday, representatives from the San Diego Sheriff's Department announced they arrested a man believed to be responsible for a the shooting deaths of a woman and two brothers that took place last Christmas Eve.

The 29 year-old suspect, identified as Carlo Mercado was arrested at his Mira Mesa home and was booked into the San Diego Central Jail.

As of late last night, his booking sheet indicated he was being charged with three counts of first degree murder.  The bail amount for each of these charges remained at $0.

El Cajon Police Say Fake Gun Was Used To Rob Gun Shop

If you're sitting there scratching your head after reading the title to this post, you're certainly not alone.

But yes, a spokesperson for the El Cajon Police Department has confirmed a fake gun was used to hold up the Hiram's Guns and Spirits store.  (Yes, you read that correctly; the store sell guns and booze and their Yelp reviews are hilarious.)

San Diego Jail Escapee Recaptured Near Petco Park

A 21-year old robbery suspect that escaped from the San Diego Central Jail has been recaptured.

Angelo Paschall was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after he store employees at a Burlington Coat Factory caught him shoplifting.  Although he would have faced misdemeanor charges for the offense, he fought back, and the matter was escalated to a felony.

La Mesa Police Department officers arrested Paschall and transported him to the downtown jail to be booked into the system.  The suspect, however, managed to escape the building through an unlocked door.

Man Steals Taxi To Drive Himself Home From Jail

When someone is released from jail, it's natural to want to get out of Dodge as quickly as possible.

Some inmates call family members, others call friends.

Twenty one year-old Qais Yoeisi, however, thought the best course of action involved stealing a parked cab... or maybe he had seen this employment ad.

The man was released from the San Diego Central Jail on Wednesday morning.  From there, he spotted an unoccupied Yellow Cab and decided he'd grab the vehicle to drive himself home.

SD Sheriffs Bust Sophisticated Meth Ring

A spokesperson from the San Diego Sheriff's Department has confirmed investigators have broken up a sophisticated methamphetamine trafficking ring.

The money for meth exchanges were being made at the Mission Bay Sportcenter.  The owner, 40 year-old Jason Boon, has been charged with 15 counts of transportation, possession and sale.  He is believed to be the ringleader who masterminded the operation.

Marijuana Ringleaders Booked Into San Diego Central Jail

Three 20-something Pacific Beach men have been arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail.

It is believed the trio shipped tens of thousands of dollars worth of marijuana every week to customers throughout the United States.

A representative close to the case said the men shipped between 15 and 20 pounds of pot every seven days.  The defendants are believed to have pocketed as much as $30,000 each week for those efforts.

Their La Jolla Boulevard homes were searched earlier this week.  A warehouse in the Midway district was also searched.
