Medical marijuana activists say it all started with a hemp bracelet.

In 2013, an delivery driver for a local marijuana dispensary service was pulled over by the San Diego Sheriff's Department due to an issue with one of his tail lights.  And at the time the deputy was asking him for his license, insurance and registration, he saw the driver was wearing a hemp bracelet.

That one visual flicker somehow spawned a further investigation, and after deputies conducted a surveillance operation, they decided to move in for a bust.

They eventually conducted a raid on the man's home, where they found hash, cannabis and butane canisters.  The delivery driver and two other people were arrested under California's drug statute and were booked into the San Diego Central Jail pending bail bonds.

Although details as to the charges and bail amounts are not currently available, they may have been booked on drug possession charges, drug distribution charges and drug manufacturing charges, if prosecutors felt there was evidence they were making hash oil.

It's also unclear how long it took for the defendants to be released on bail bonds.

Court records show the three were sentenced this week and received community service and summary probation for their crimes.
