A 21-year old robbery suspect that escaped from the San Diego Central Jail has been recaptured.

Angelo Paschall was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after he store employees at a Burlington Coat Factory caught him shoplifting.  Although he would have faced misdemeanor charges for the offense, he fought back, and the matter was escalated to a felony.

La Mesa Police Department officers arrested Paschall and transported him to the downtown jail to be booked into the system.  The suspect, however, managed to escape the building through an unlocked door.

Local news reports indicated still wearing handcuffs at the time he made a run for it.

Officers didn't believe the fugitive was dangerous- his prior run ins with the law were all theft related, but they knew he wanted to evade capture and prosecution.

Members of the La Mesa PD, San Diego Police Department and sheriff's department searched the downtown area for several hours, but nothing turned up.

Sources within the department say the suspect was reportedly re-captured early Tuesday morning near Petco Park.   He may have run, they said, but he didn't run very far.

Paschall has since been re-booked into the San Diego Central Jail and has been charged with robbery, obstruction and escaping from jail.

Bail has been set at $105,000.
