A spokesperson from the San Diego Sheriff's Department has confirmed investigators have broken up a sophisticated methamphetamine trafficking ring.

The money for meth exchanges were being made at the Mission Bay Sportcenter.  The owner, 40 year-old Jason Boon, has been charged with 15 counts of transportation, possession and sale.  He is believed to be the ringleader who masterminded the operation.

The arrest was made possible through the efforts of a multi agency investigation.  "Operation Boone's Farm" included members of the San Diego Police Department, San Diego Sheriff's Department, the Martime Task Force, the District Attorney's Office, Drug Enforcement Agency and Homeland Security.

Those close to the bust reportedly said that undercover officers purchased at least one half pound of high-quality methamphetamine during the operation.

The deals were made using lockers at the Sportcenter.   Drug couriers would use them to either pick up drugs or drop off cash.   The dealer and the buyer never met in person.  The District Attorney's office refers to this as being a "dead drop".

Five pounds of methamphetamine, heroin, prescription pain killers, marijuana and heroin were confiscated as part of the bust.  Authorities also executed a search warrant at Boone's house.  They removed an additional pound and a half of meth from his car.  A loaded handgun was seized from his home.

The defendant has pled not guilty.  The San Diego Sheriff's Department has confirmed that several other people have been arrested in conjunction with this operation.  These men and women are Susie Macias, Tamara Delar, Michael Gifford, Janelle Shyrock, Jacqueline Miller, Joe Bean and Spencer Edmonds.   Jail officials said they will be arraigned within the next few days.

A representative from the prosecutors office said the investigation is ongoing.   They expect additional arrests will be made in the upcoming weeks.

Agents said they chose to raid the Sportscenter prior to the start of summer camp programs.   The youth camps are expected to go on as planned.  Sportscenter employees are not releasing additional comment on the matter.

The investigation was launched in late 2012.  San Diego Sheriff's Department officials have not indicated how they were tipped off.  Boone remains in custody at the San Diego Central Jail.   His bail has been set at half a million dollars.
