A 21 year-old Virginia man was arrested after breaking into a Chesapeake home.
Authorities say they were tipped off as to the home invasion after suspect Mark Fulk called 9-1-1 on himself.
Investigators say the man was practically naked when he broke into the residence. The homeowners said he was clad in a small towel.
Fulk hopped on the offensive when he was discovered. He dropped his towel and reached for a kitchen knife.
He threatened to kill the couple. Jim and Helen Hardee said they were concerned for their lives.
At some point during the altercation, Fulk requested touse a phone. It is unclear why he dialed 9-1-1. Fulk became frustrated with the operator and threw the phone toward a wall.
The defendant later said that he and the Hardees were all going to die. Police arrived a short time later. A department spokesperson said they were quite confused to see the suspect walk outside like everything was normal.
Officers said he acted as if nothing were out of the ordinary- including him strutting toward the street without any clothes. The suspect was handcuffed, read his Miranda Rights and transported to the local jail.
Fulk was booked on charges relating to indecent exposure, breaking and entering, burglary and other similar charges. The naked burglar is being held at the Chesapeake jail without bond.
A representative from the district attorney's office has said they are trying to decide whether the defendant will be charged with attempted murder. Jail officials have not indicated whether a toxicology scan has been done.
It is unclear whether Fulk was on drugs at the time the incident took place. The defendant does not seem to have a criminal history. He is reportedly a long-time employee of a national pizza chain and has been enrolled in a trade class at a local community college.
Jail officials have not said how much time the defendant could face if he is convicted.
