Robbery Suspect Drives Himself To SDPD Headquarters

Sources within the San Diego Police Department say the prime suspect in an armed robbery was captured outside the SDPD headquarters.

Earlier this week a Chula Vista store employee approached a man in the parking lot. There was reason to believe he had stolen a handful of things from the store.

The suspect brandished a gun and proceeded to load himself and his wheelchair into a van.

The police were notified and spotted the vehicle getting onto the northbound lanes of Interstate 805.  Officers tried to stop him, but he refused to pull over.

The pursuit continued into the streets of downtown San …

San Diego Law Enforcement Holds Fundraiser For Slain Officer’s Family

A number of San Diego law enforcement agencies joined together last weekend to hold a car wash fundraiser to help raise money for a slain Escondido Police officer's family.

The officer was murdered several weeks ago by her husband in what appears to be a domestic violence incident.  Although the woman had only been with the Escondido PD for a short period of time, her supervisors said she was quickly becoming a leader among her peers.

Officer Laura leaves behind a small daughter.  Her husband, Freddy Rodas, has since been booked into an area jail where he's being held on murder …

The Brothers, The Money Squabble And The Hedge Clipper Attack

The Brothers, The Money Squabble And The Hedge Clipper Attack

It's not uncommon for siblings to fight with one another, but in San Diego, a recent squabble between brothers ended with one being arrested for attempted murder.

It all started late last Friday afternoon when police received a call about an family incident that was unfolding in Rolando.

Although there aren't too many details about the exact circumstances, what is known is that brother #1 seems to have owed brother #2 some money (and when those funds weren't returned as promised, things got a little bit out of hand).

That's when the oldest sibling reached for a pair of hedge clippers and …

UCSD Police Department Gets A New Leader

Sources at the UC San Diego campus have confirmed the university has named a new police chief.

David Rose officially took the helm yesterday, according to a UCSD Police Department spokesperson.  He succeeds former chief Orville King who retired last week.

The campus chancellor said he feels Rose was an excellent choice to fill the role.  Not only does he have extensive law enforcement experience, he's already well familiar with the campus.   Why? Because he's been working in the field of on campus safety since he studied there as an undergrad.

That was more than 30 years ago.

Ultimately, members of the UCSD …

The Hemp Bracelet, The Hash Bust And The Trip To San Diego Jail

The Hemp Bracelet, The Hash Bust And The Trip To San Diego Jail

Medical marijuana activists say it all started with a hemp bracelet.

In 2013, an delivery driver for a local marijuana dispensary service was pulled over by the San Diego Sheriff's Department due to an issue with one of his tail lights.  And at the time the deputy was asking him for his license, insurance and registration, he saw the driver was wearing a hemp bracelet.

That one visual flicker somehow spawned a further investigation, and after deputies conducted a surveillance operation, they decided to move in for a bust.

They eventually conducted a raid on the man's home, where they found hash, …

Fate Of Marshmallow Fight Participants Remains Sticky

What started out in 1985 as "friendly fire" between neighbors has since grown into the largest marshmallow fight in the western United States.

The annual 4th of July marshmallow fight has gotten so big, according to local residents, that it's turning Ocean Beach into a great big hot and sticky mess.  But this year, the San Diego Police Department will be on the lookout for would-be candy tossers- and those who break the rules could find themselves in hot water.

Last year, several people were hurt and nearly 2,400 pounds of trash needed to be collected off sidewalks, streets and the …

If you're sitting there scratching your head after reading the title to this post, you're certainly not alone.

More California Jails Saying No To ICE Holds

San Diego Jails are the latest to say they won't honor immigration holds
Immigration rights advocates are calling San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore's latest announcement a win.  As of late last week, he's joined a growing number of other counties throughout the state who are no longer detaining inmates simply because of their immigration status.

Every time a person is arrested their information is run through a national database. If Immigration Customs and Enforcement determines the defendant may not be in the country legally they'll issue a hold and ask the jail to hold this person a few extra days so …
