LASD Sheriff Race Kicks Up After Two More Deputies Are Indicted

Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell picks up another key endorsement
Former LAPD Chief William Bratton has announced he's supporting Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell in the race for LA County Sheriff.

McDonnell worked alongside him during his tenure at the department, he said, and he feels his skills, knowledge of the county and decades of experience will serve the department well.

He also believes McDonnell is the right candidate to help turn the department around.

The LBPD Chief announced his bid for the seat in mid-January, shortly after now-retired LASD Sheriff  Lee Baca announced his early retirement.

Baca left the LASD amid …

LAPD Travels To Israel To Study Counter-Terrorism Intelligence Tactics

Grant funding used to pay for trip to the Middle East
The last time the LAPD traveled to Israel it the cost of the trip toppled $18,000. That money, according to sources  within the department, is considered to have been well spent.

Israel has a strong hold of counter-terrorism tactics, they said, and the Los Angeles Police Department feels that in making these types of trips, a lot can be learned.

LAPD Chief Bratton has described Israeli intelligence experts as being some of the best at what they do in all of the world.

The current trip, according to Deputy Chief Michale Downing,  …

LASD Moves On With Interim Sheriff & Election Ready

Baca steps down, interim sheriff John Scott shakes things up
Former OCSD undersheriff John Scott was officially sworn into the LASD last week so he can lead the department until a new, permanent sheriff is elected, and he started making changes immediately.

For example- Scott wasn't on the job for a full day before moving to cancel the field deputy program.

The department employed a total of four civilian field deputies under Lee Baca's watch, and taxpayers had been footing the bill for a nearly half-million dollars in their combined annual salary expense.

One man, Michael Yamaki, was reportedly paid more than $170,000 …

OC Undersheriff To Lead Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department

When LASD Sheriff Lee Baca announced his retirement, John Scott wasn't on his short-list of interim replacements.  Baca was hopeful Assistant Sheriff Terri McDonald would get the job.

But once the LA County Board of Supervisors learned she lacked the proper credentials, they set their sights on someone else.

That search, according a source within that office, led them south of the county line, right to the doorstep of Orange County Undersheriff John Scott.

Scott is no stranger to the LASD.   In fact, he served as the department’s chief of custody operations for a number of years before making the move to …

LAPD Officers Being Trained To Use Gunshot Wound Trauma Kits

LAPD Officers Being Trained To Use Gunshot Wound Trauma Kits

In a day and age where mass shooting incidents are becoming more and more common, the LAPD wants its officers to be prepared.

Officers are often the first ones to the scene, they said, and if an adult or a minor child is in need of medical attention, there's a chance paramedics won't be able to treat them until the area is secured.

This is why officers are being trained to use combat-style trauma kits.

These kits will not only contain your every day first aid items; they will also include things such as tourniquets and compression bandages, which are used to …

Long Beach Police Chief Not A Shoe-In For LASD Sheriff

Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell may have a long list of supporters in his bid to become the next LA County Sheriff, but that's not to say he's guaranteed to win the race.

Political analysts are saying he's by no means a shoe-in, and the winner in the upcoming election will need to have name recognition, community outreach and a deep-pocketed campaign.

This is the first time the seat has come open in a very long time, they said, and that's bound to make for an interesting race.

In fact, the last time the field was this open was in 1998. …

McDonnell is not new to Los Angeles law enforcement circles.  He once worked as second in command to former LAPD Chief William Bratton before taking the chief position at the Long Beach Police Department.

Those who …

It’s Not Just Alcohol: Drugging And Driving

Ever know anyone who has told you that they're just high, not drunk? It's ok because they drive better....

This New Years Eve the Los Angeles Police Department will be armed with more than just a breathalyzer...

A new high-tech swab test is allowing members of the LAPD to detect drivers who are driving drugged.

The department said submitting to the test is completely voluntary, and could be the best alternative to DUI blood tests.

Officers say the text can be completed in a matter of minutes and is being touted as a simpler, more effective and easier way to determine whether someone …

Call 911 Hundreds Of Times Will Get You Arrested

Dialing 911 for an emergency is one thing- calling it over and over again without proper cause gets you jail time.  That's exactly what happen when a Los Angeles woman chose to abuse the system.

Linette Young has reportedly been sentenced to six months in jail after calling 911 hundreds of times, as court records show she was accused of calling the emergency line more than 400 times in a 36-month span.  A source close to the case said that once she finishes her sentence, she'll still need to enter psychological counseling and will spend three years on probation.

Paramedics responded …
