A man caused an officer-involved shooting at a theater in San Diego January 12. The man pulled out a handgun in the parking lot of a San Diego movie theater on January 12 threatening a bystander who tried to interject with him and his girlfriend who were arguing. After assaulting his girlfriend, the man fled into the theater where 'Les Miserables' was playing, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.

Officers of the San Diego Police Department found the man in the theater, which had about 15 other moviegoers seated inside, the article stated. He showed the officers his handgun, at which point officer Addam Ansari opened fire. The suspect was hit in the chest and the arm and remains hospitalized for the injury.

The Daily Mail identified the suspect as 20-year-old Tom Billodeaux of Escondido, California. The gunfire caused the movie patrons to hide behind their seats and flee the theater in fear, the article stated.

Ansari, the officer identified as responsible for shooting Billodeaux, has been with the San Diego police for for a year and a half, the Tribune reported. He was among numerous officers searching the movie complex for Billodeaux, and one of two who found the suspect sitting by himself in the theater.

Homicide LieutenantErnie Herbert has declined to release the name of the other officer in the theater with Ansari, the article stated. The second officer did not open fire. No one but Billodeaux was injured in the incident.

While officers were searching inside the movie complex, other officers were escorting patrons out of theaters, the Daily Mail reported. Police department captain Terry McManus said Ansari opened fire because he felt his life was threatened, the article stated.
