An 18-year-old woman was arrested by the San Diego Police Department on October 31 after taking part in what news sources are calling a "crime spree" that included carjacking.
The North County Times said Cindy Altamirano Garcia had been in a relationship with Philip Martin Hernandez, who allegedly shot a man as well as an off-duty San Diego police officer at an ATM, set three vehicles on fire and robbed pedestrians, all within a 17-hour span during a day he was supposed to have appeared in court for an arraignment. Garcia was arrested for involvement in the crimes. She is suspected to have participated in a carjacking in Easy San Diego while wearing police-type vests.
Police identified Hernandez as a suspect in the crime and began following the van he was driving. However, Hernandez reportedly stopped the van, got out and started firing at the officers. Garcia then got out of the van, the Times article stated, and was ordered to walk backward toward the police. Hernandez was shot and killed by police bullets.
Fox 5 San Diego reported no one else was injured in the firefight. The article also stated the two had worn garments with law enforcement insignias and the word "police" on them two days before, in the ATM robbery. After her arrest, Garcia was taken into custody and booked into a San Diego jail.
