A woman was recently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Las Colinas women's jail in Santee after her husband died from a gunshot wound to his chest. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the man and woman were reportedly fighting for a gun inside a San Diego apartment on March 23 when he was shot.

Police did not disclose the cause of the domestic altercation between the two, but authorities did say an argument escalated into a physical fight and they both wrestled for control of the handgun. Fox 5 San Diego reported the man was found on the bedroom floor of the apartment. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and died the next day.

Initially, the San Diego Police Department's Domestic Violence Unit was sent to the scene but the investigation was later transferred to homicide detectives, according to Fox 5.

As the investigation continues, evidence and possible witnesses will be collected to determine the cause of the argument and why the man was shot in the chest, Fox 5 said.

Many individuals who are arrested and taken to the all-female Las Colinas Jail may be released on a bail bond. Some bail bonds issued for inmates at the women's jail require no collateral and can be done with zero percent down. However, some bonds require 10 percent of the total bail amount be paid before a prisoner can be released from jail.

Man dies after being shot
Another police department in San Diego County opened an investigation into the shooting of a man in National City. According to the Union-Tribune, the man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a strip mall March 23.

The alleged suspect fled the scene in a pickup truck, according to the report. The victim was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died from his wounds.

Police believe the gunman fired as many as 15 rounds from a semi-automatic gun during the incident.
