A woman remains in jail on a $1 million San Diego bail bond after it was discovered she was involved in a shooting spree alongside her husband. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, police suspect that Cindy Garcia took part in 40-year-old Philip Hernandez's shooting spree last October. Authorities had allegedly been searching for Hernandez, who was suspected of being responsible for a number of shootings, robberies and arsons while dressed up as a police officer.

The source reported that Hernandez allegedly began committing the crimes on October 29, which included the shooting of a man and later of an off-duty San Diego Police Department officer at an ATM in Escondido, California. In addition to the gunfire, Hernandez is alleged to have set three vehicles on fire in San Diego and Chula Vista and robbed several pedestrians in the community. Witnesses told the officers that a woman was present at the time of several of the incidents, which is what led them to believe Garcia was his partner in crime. On October 31, an investigation began after three San Diego Police Department  officials shot and killed Hernandez. The District Attorney's office recently decided the police shot at the suspect out of self-defense.

On April 19, District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis wrote a letter to Police Chief Bill Lansdowne detailing what she found during the investigation. Dumanis said that Hernandez shot a high-powered M1A rifle 13 times during the October 31 incident, leaving six bullet holes in the patrol car.

"Mr. Hernandez's actions caused the officers to reasonably fear for their safety and left them no other choice but to return fire in an effort to protect themselves and each other," her letter stated.

After fatally shooting the suspect, police were also able to recover a loaded .45-caliber semi-automatic handgun next to Hernandez's body. Garcia will remain in jail until she is able to post bail. The Associated Press reported that she is set to stand trial on charges of carjacking, arson, attempted murder of a peace officer and conspiracy.
