It Is Illegal to Wear a Zoot Suit on Los Angeles Streets

When we hear the term “Zoot Suit,” we might flash to the music of “Cherry Poppin’ Daddies” from the 90s.
You may not know that song was based on a real 1943 Los Angeles riot. Yes, only in Los Angeles, right?
Yes, sailors and marines duked it out with the minorities who shunned war-time laws against the making and wearing of the extravagant suits. The long jacket featured overly-padded shoulders and the pants that were severely tapered down to the ankle.

This look was the height of fashion during the rise of the jazz era in the 1940s and was favored by …

Elderly Car Thief Nabbed; Too Slow Putting Walker Into The Trunk

Most car thieves will agree that speed is of the essence.  This is not just important in terms of the getaway, it's especially important during the time the vehicle is being stolen.

An elderly Australian man apparently forgot this rule when he robbed a woman at knife point and attempted to jack her car.

Authorities were able to nab the thief because he was too slow in placing his walker into the trunk.

Queensland Police reportedly said the incident took place in the parking lot of a local retail store.  The man is said to have entered the establishment to buy a …

4 Jails You Would Pay To ‘Serve Time’

No one ever thinks they'll wake up one day with an unrelenting desire to go to jail.

However, there is a growing trend within the luxury hotel market for taking old, forgotten prisons and transforming them into posh, swanky destinations.

And travelers have no issues paying a pretty penny to stay there.

Top 4 Places You Would Pay To 'Serve Time'

    1.  The Liberty Hotel, Boston.  The Liberty Hotel looked much different when it first opened its doors in 1851.  Back in those days it was more commonly referred to as the Charles Street Jail.   The detention center had 220 jail cells …

9 Reasons Not To Drink And Drive 4th Of July

Summertime holiday celebrations include many things.  Barbeques, friends, family, and very often, a variety of adult beverages.

The common-sense rule calls for planning and moderation.  Nothing quite ruins a party like finding out a friend or family member got arrested or injured because of drinking and driving.

1. The 4th of July is hands down the deadliest time of the year to be on the road - even for sober drivers.  Statistics show that DUI related accidents and deaths are highest during the July 4 holiday weekend.    A recent report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that 31% of …

Man Commits Robbery ‘Disguised’ By Clear Plastic Bag

Most criminals aren't known for their intellect.  This is especially true for the 41 year-old British man who robbed a gas station while wearing a clear plastic bag over his head.

It is unclear if he did not own a ski mask or if wearing it simply never crossed his mind.

The incident is said to have taken place in September 2012.  It was at that time that clear plastic bag-owner Jamie Neil and a 20 year-old accomplice decided to rob a UK service station.  Police believe both men were (more…)

5 Things To Not Do In Court

Pinocchio may not have know what to do facing the judge, but in most cases even people who have never been to court before will allow themselves to be guided by common sense.  They will arrive early and dress, act appropriately and tell the truth - hopefully.

Others, however, don't take this type of situation seriously.  When this happens things can go very, very wrong.

Don't show up drunk.  In May of this year, a South Carolina crime victim admitted to drinking a double shot of vodka 30 minutes before her 9 a.m. court appearance.  Officers administered a breathalyzer test …

What To Do After DUI

When you plan a night of good times, laughs and a few drinks, the plan usually doesn’t end with you being arrested for DUI.

Getting charged with a DUI can be a costly mistake that you hopefully will never make.

Not only does a DUI take a big bite out of your wallet, but it also takes away valuable time that has to be spent in jail, taking part in community service activities and education programs, and of course going to court.

The risks and costs of getting behind the wheel after you’ve had a few more drinks than planned are not …

A UK-based police dog is being called a hero.  The furry crime fighter took down an axe-wielding maniac after he mistook the man's weapon as a toy.

The incident unfolded last November after police received a call that a seemingly unstable man was waiving an axe through the air.  The intoxicated suspect was considered to be armed and dangerous.

The caller speculated the man may have been drinking.  Authorities arrived to the scene a short time later.  It was at that time that the dog, Rossi, mistook suspect Adrian Dowdall's axe for a toy.   Rossi leaped through the air and wrestled …
