There was a series of stabbings in San Diego neighborhoods over the holidays. The San Diego police department recently released a statement to the press, detailing an incident that occurred at a family holiday gathering at an apartment in San Diego's North Park neighborhood. The report indicated that during the family gathering, a fight broke out, during which a 48-year-old man and a 59-year-old man were critically injured. Both men needed to be transported to a local trauma center to receive medical care for their wounds.
In connection with this family disturbance, a 44-year-old mother and her 20-year-old son were booked into San Diego County jail, charged with assault with a deadly weapon. The police reported that the Mid City Division of the San Diego Police is currently investigating the incident.
According to the police department's report, the incident began as a fight near 30th Street and Monroe Avenue, and during the fight, the 48-year-old man suffered a cut to the head from being struck with a coffee pot and was stabbed with a knife to his chest. The 59-year-old man received a laceration to his armpit, and the police don't yet know how this wound was delivered. When police arrived at the scene, the 44-year-old mother was promptly arrested; however, her 20-year-old son jumped out a window in an effort to escape San Diego police, leading officers on a foot pursuit that lasted roughly two blocks. Both mother and son are being detained at San Diego Central Jail. While the police are still involved in an investigation of the incident, police officials did indicate that none of the injuries sustained by the two men are considered to be life-threatening.

Another report was released on December 24, which indicated that an 18-year-old man was arrested for allegedly stabbing his 50-year-old boyfriend in the back when a fight broke out in downtown San Diego. The incident occurred on Fourth Avenue in San Diego's Core-Columbia neighborhood just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, December 23. The 50-year-old victim of the stabbing was taken to a local trauma center to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The 18-year-old suspect was detained and charged with assault with a deadly weapon.
In San Diego County, the usual bail set for those accused of assault with a deadly weapon is $10,000, according to the Superior Court of California County of San Diego bail schedule.
