Two car chases in the San Diego area struck the community. According to CBS affiliate KFMB, San Diego Police Department officers arrested John Cummings at his mother's home after he led the officers on a police chase in a stolen vehicle February 17.
Car thief victim Aaron Liu told the source he was confused when he first noticed his vehicle was missing from San Diego State on February 15.
"My car was just gone," he said. "I made sure I didn't have a memory lapse and looked up and down the parking structure. And couldn't find it."
When police arrived to Cummings' mother's home, they also apprehended a woman who had been riding as a passenger during the police car chase. Although they are not releasing the woman's name, the San Diego Police Department suspect she was somehow involved in the theft of Liu's car.
Another car chase in San Diego led to an arrest February 18. According to NBC San Diego, police started to chase a vehicle in an attempt to stop the car from speeding down the road. When one of the suspects threw a gun outside of the moving car, San Diego officials told the news source one full round of gun shots went off.
San Diego Police Department Lt. David Rohowitz told the source the officers were confused when they heard the shots at first.
"He wasn't certain based on where the flash was a gun shot or possibly back fire, but he said that over the radio," Rohowitz said. "Obviously this was a much more dangerous situation than someone failing to stop for a speeding violation."
While nobody was hurt in the incident, the officers were able to arrest one teenager and one adult and are still looking for one of the individuals who they allege was also involved in the car chase.
