Officers from the San Diego Police Department arrested a man who recently attempted to rob a gas station. The man, 29-year-old Dominic Boykin, allegedly tried to rob the Rolando Mart on University Avenue, east of College Avenue around 7:30 a.m. February 24.

According to ABC affiliate 10 News, Boykin purchased cigarettes, and instead of leaving the store, approached the owner and simulated that he had a gun. As Boykin walked around the counter to demand money, the owner offered his own protection in an effort to deter the suspect.

"The owner pulled out a taser and scared the suspect," said San Diego Police officer Frank Cali.

Upon seeing the taser, Boykin then retreated and ran out of the building. He allegedly fled the scene on bicycle, reports said. Police from the robbery unit were able to track Boykin down and arrest him a few blocks from the gas station. He was taken to jail and booked for suspicion of attempted robbery.

Man steals bike, shoots at owners
In another robbery, a couple looking for a bike stolen from their yard were fired at by a gunman. The BMX-style bicycle was stolen from the couple's home in San Marcos. According to 10 News, while the couple searched for the bike, someone fired several rounds at them.

Deputies from the San Diego Sheriff's Department said the shots struck two vehicles, but no one was injured in the incident.

After the first round of shots were fired, the couple decided to look for the bike by driving through the neighborhood instead of searching for the bike on foot. 10 News said the couple then found two men riding away on bikes, one of them the stolen bicycle, and confronted the suspected thieves.

The man on the stolen bike threw it into the road and pulled out a gun. He fired four shots at the couple, striking their car and another parked vehicle. Police said no injuries resulted from the confrontation with the thief.

Reports said the two men, described as Hispanic, then fled the scene on foot and bicycle.
