A San Diego County Sheriff's Department deputy was recently attacked and injured by a jail inmate. The deputy was processing the inmate at the San Diego Central Jail, who had been arrested for a parole violation, when the inmate attacked the deputy and tried to run away, the North County Times reported.

The article stated Jason Cross was "unhappy about returning" to the San Diego jail and became uncooperative. The deputy struggle to gain control of Cross and another deputy tried to step in to force the inmate to the ground. However, during the struggle, the deputy's ankle was dislocated and he was subsequently taken to the hospital.

A CNS report stated that the 41-year-old Cross attacked the deputy as he was being searched in a cell before being booked into the jail. San Diego County Sheriff's Lieutenant Alan Kneeshaw said the deputy had an "obvious dislocation to his left ankle."

The incident forced officials to put the jail under a lockdown for about 30 minutes. Authorities did not disclose details of the parole violations that sent Cross back to jail.
