A man was taken to a San Diego jail October 28 after he allegedly beat his girlfriend and crashed a car into a police patrol vehicle and then fled the scene, the San Diego Union Tribune reported.
Tommy Madriaga had left a party with his girlfriend at the Embassy Suites on Harbor Drive around 12:15a.m. The 35-year-old was fighting with his girlfriend and reportedly slammed her head into the dashboard of her car as they drove away, the article stated.
Citing a police officer's report, the UT said that after being beaten and choked by Madriaga, the girlfriend ran from the car as the couple passed a police vehicle near an intersection. In a "jealous rage," Madriaga drove his girlfriend's car into the police vehicle and drove off, the UT reported. He later left the car a few blocks west of the crash and ran.
Local police located Madriaga later that day at the Roadway Inn in Pacific Beach, according to the article. He is being held under suspicion of spousal abuse and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer.
A San Diego 6 News report said police arrested him around 6 p.m. He is also facing charges of dissuading a witness, false imprisonment, failure to yield and hit-and-run, the San Diego Police Department reported, according to the article
