A four-year veteran of the San Diego Police Department shot a man in North Park the night of November 17 after the man had been firing shots in the street, the North County Times reported.

Police said the 55-year-old man identified as Timothy James Farrell had been dressed in camouflage and firing a rifle near University Avenue and Louisiana Street around 7:30 p.m. Police instructed the man to lower the gun, but he refused and instead aimed it at the police officers on the scene. San Diego Police Officer Frank Bigler was the one to fire at Farrell, the news source reported. Farrell was wounded by the shot, but is expected to survive.

A CNS report said Farrell is awaiting charges pending his release from the hospital. The source reported that police said he had been firing shots into the air and may have fired at a nearby pizzeria. NBC San Diego reported that no officers were wounded in the incident. Police said Farrell would likely be booked into a San Diego jail and held on suspicion of attempted murder.
