Authorities have confirmed that the Contra Costa Sheriff's Department deputy who flipped his car during a patrol in Richmond has not sustained major injuries. The incident took place earlier this week while the deputy was en-route to a call. Dispatchers have not indicated the nature of the call or the area from which it originated.
The deputy has not been identified. Contra Costa Sheriff's Department officials say he was driving along San Pablo Avenue at about 11:50pm. He approached an intersection and took note of a truck that was doing the same. The deputy reportedly attempted to swerve in order to avoid a full on collision. It was at that time that his squad car stuck a center median and rolled over.
It is not believed the driver of the other vehicle sustained any injuries. Investigators are reportedly still looking into the cause of the accident. It is unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a factor into why the driver of the truck did not or was unable to stop prior to entering the intersection.
First responders to the scene were able to remove the deputy from his vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. He is anticipated to return to work in the near future.
