What started out in 1985 as "friendly fire" between neighbors has since grown into the largest marshmallow fight in the western United States.

Throwing Punches To Stay Out Of Trouble

Riverside PD challenges at-risk teens to put up their dukes
The Riverside Police Department is the latest law enforcement agency to team up with community members in order to help them throw down in a controlled setting.

But the concept is a little bit different than you might think.

The program, which is a joint venture between the Riverside PD and UC Riverside, is one part educational and one part lifestyle training.  Basically, it allows underrepresented youths in the county to get together in a safe, productive and mentoring-type environment.

Show Me The Money: SDPD Under Fire For Missing $1M

It can be bad enough when you lose your car keys or sunglasses, but in the case of the San Diego Police Department, they're facing a slightly bigger issue.

They're trying to get to the bottom of how $1 million in seized cash and assets went missing.

Earlier this week, a local newspaper's watchdog group found that the funds were absorbed into the department during property seizures.  It also included monies confiscated from drug dealers at the time of their arrest.

The law requires that seized and forfeited assets be shared between local and state law enforcement agencies.

San Diego Jail Escapee Recaptured Near Petco Park

A 21-year old robbery suspect that escaped from the San Diego Central Jail has been recaptured.

Angelo Paschall was taken into custody on Monday afternoon after he store employees at a Burlington Coat Factory caught him shoplifting.  Although he would have faced misdemeanor charges for the offense, he fought back, and the matter was escalated to a felony.

La Mesa Police Department officers arrested Paschall and transported him to the downtown jail to be booked into the system.  The suspect, however, managed to escape the building through an unlocked door.

FBI And US Attorney Look Into Alleged SDPD Misconduct

The San Diego Police Department is the latest law enforcement agency that has come under scrutiny of federal officials.

The US attorney's office and FBI have announced they'll be launching a criminal investigation into alleged incidents of officer misconduct, and the Department of Justice will be reviewing additional cases as well.

CA Law Enforcement Admits To Tapping Your Cell Phone Data

9 law enforcement agencies say they use StingRay technology
Big Brother is watching.

A recent news report shows that law enforcement agencies from throughout the state are using high-tech surveillance that allows police to pinpoint your location using cell phone data.

A public information record request shows the San Jose Police Department, LAPD,  LASD and San Diego Police Department are  among those who use StingRay.

Although no one will say exactly how it works, it's believed that cellphone tracking is being used to thwart terrorist plans and to disrupt terrorist networks.

Kidnapping Attempt Thwarted By Little League Coach

Parents from throughout the county say they shaken after learning a 7 year-old boy was nearly kidnapped at an Ocean Beach park.

A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department has said that even though abduction attempt took place last month,  the incident is still fresh in everyone's mind.

SDPD Names Its First-Ever Female Police Chief

Chief Williams Lansdowne retires, Assistant Chief Shelley Zimmerman promoted
Just one day after Chief William Lansdowne announced he was stepping down from his role at the San Diego Police Department,  mayor-elect Kevin Faulconer named his replacement.

Assistant Chief Shelley Zimmerman will step into the role effective Monday.
