How Not To Get Your Point Across

An Oakland man found himself in a pretty sticky situation last week after his hijinks at a City Council meeting landed him in jail.

No one is quite sure why 20 year-old Dante Cano was at the public meeting, but they are sure that he was out of order.  At some point, the man, who was screaming jibber jabber, ran toward and jumped on a raised speaking platform at the center of the room.

Officers said he was eventually detained, thanks to the efforts of community members and a city staffer.

CA Law Enforcement Admits To Tapping Your Cell Phone Data

9 law enforcement agencies say they use StingRay technology
Big Brother is watching.

A recent news report shows that law enforcement agencies from throughout the state are using high-tech surveillance that allows police to pinpoint your location using cell phone data.

A public information record request shows the San Jose Police Department, LAPD,  LASD and San Diego Police Department are  among those who use StingRay.

Although no one will say exactly how it works, it's believed that cellphone tracking is being used to thwart terrorist plans and to disrupt terrorist networks.

It's also being used to solve other types of crime.

Oakland PD Reports Turnaround In Crime

The Oakland Police Department had a rocky start in 2013.

Crime was up, staffing was down and citizens were still at odds with local officers due to events that took place during the Occupy protest movement.

Elected officials hired outside consultants in hopes of finding a way to overhaul police department operations, and from there, they re-opened the long-closed police academy.

Oakland Police Foundation Golf Tournament Set For Sept. 26

Those interested in participating in the second annual Oakland Police Department Foundation golf tournament will need to submit their registration entries by tomorrow.

A representative for the Foundation said that all monies raised will be used to help provide program funding for at-risk youth and will also be used to help train police officers.

The entry fee is $150 per golfer and the fee includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, and a themed dinner that is set to take place at the Berkeley's Tilden Park golf course later that night.    Registration will kick off at 9:30 and the official start time …

Oakland PD Gets Complete Overhaul

A spokesperson for the Oakland Police Department has said that efforts to overhaul the department are now complete.

Officers will now be assigned to work within one of five districts.  As of last weekend, at least three of them are up and running.   Consultants felt that dividing the city into districts, each being led by a captain, would help with crime fighting efforts.  Increased crime rates have been a big problem for the city within the past several years.
