It’s been no great secret that law enforcement agencies throughout the US have been turning to social media websites to help solve crime.  At this point, nearly everyone has heard at least one story about “selfie incrimination”, where a criminal has posted a photo of their unlawful exploits, only to have police come knocking at their door hours later.

You can find just about everything on social media websites these days, from crime photos, to pizza parlors and bail bond agents.

Members of the Redwood City Police Department have decided to take that one step further.  In recent weeks they've started to use these websites in a different manner; they’re turning to Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter to help reunite property crime victims with pilfered property.

Photos of the stolen goods are posted, shared and in some cases, has led to items being reunited with their rightful owners (and yes, they say, being reunited feels so good).

The largest percentage of Pinterest users are women, and police are actively targeting the “mom” demographic by posting photos of the latest drug trends.  So let this be a warning to all you teenagers out there- you may think your mom is online looking at pictures and swapping recipes, but there’s a decent chance she’s doing some recon.
