USING A BONDSMAN
To bail someone out of jail, you may take the full amount of the bail to the court or jail, usually in cash or cashier's check. They will hold your funds until the resolution of the case. Most people don't have those types of funds available and choose to use a bail bondsman.
If you choose to utilize a bail bond company, your cost will be 10% of the total bail amount.
If the bail is $25,000, your cost will be $2500. There are no hidden fees or taxes. The amount that you pay to the bondsman is a fee and is fully earned when the bond is posted with the jail and the inmate is released. When you sign a bail bond, you take responsibility to make certain that they return to court as required. If you are considering using a bondsman, you may find our Frequently Asked Questions page helpful.

SAN MATEO COUNTY JAIL SYSTEM
San Mateo County has only one detention facility in the entire county: Maguire Correctional Facility. The jail lobby phone is staffed 24 hours a day. Maguire provides rehabilitative and jail services to pre-trial individuals and inmates who have been sentenced by local judges.
Nearly everybody that is arrested in San Mateo County will eventually be processed within this detention facility. The jail is rated to hold 688 inmates; however, typically it holds about 1,100 inmates (about twice the appropriate capacity). Jail overcrowding is prevalent throughout California and is a huge political issue for San Mateo County.
San Mateo County also has a Women's Correctional Center. However, that too is significantly overcrowded. San Mateo is in the process of jail planning to correct this situation.
