A police dog at the Stockton Police Department got an extra special treat this week after helping his human counterparts take down a suspected bad guy.

Officers received a call earlier this week about a man who was violating a domestic violence restraining order.

The caller said the man in question, 34 year-old Juan Hernandez, had assaulter her previously and was trying to break into her home.

Got Diversity? Some Say The SDPD Does Not

Minority populations not well represented within the department
Attrition in the San Diego Police Department is dwindling it's diversity.

Current racial break downs show the SDPD has 9 percent fewer Hispanic and 8 percent fewer Asian officers than it did just for years ago.

Recruiting efforts are still going strong, according to department sources, and the department wants to create an ethnically diverse workplace.  For now, however, those efforts are falling short.

If you look at the citywide demographics, less than 50 percent of San Diego residents are Caucasian- but Caucasian officers make up nearly 60 percent of the police force.

For Profit Jail Cleared In Garden Grove PD Inmate Death

Controversial firm cleared of wrongdoing
The Orange County District Attorney's office said they have found no evidence of misconduct by for-profit prison firm The Geo Group.

That having been said, the Geo Group, who has been plagued with lawsuits has been found not guilty in the 2012 death of Joel Duran.

Those close to the case say it all started when Duran taken into custody by the Garden Grove Police Department for resisting arrest.  He died less than three hours later.

Two Monterey County Jail inmates died earlier this month after not receiving prompt medical attention for what's been described as flu-like symptoms.

$500 million in state grant funding has been awarded to CA jails this year
The Santa Barbara Jail has confirmed the county has been awarded a $38.9 million state grant that will help them build a 228-bed wing on the yet-to-be-built North County Jail

That wing, they said, will reportedly provide programs aimed at helping reduce recidivism rates.
