Four members of the Hawthorne Police Department are being sued after tazering a man who was picking up boxes from a friend's house

It all started last week when a concerned neighbor saw Jonathan Meister loading some boxes into his car.

Stanislaus County Jail Inmates Released Early Due To Staffing Shortage

Approximately five dozen inmates are now back on the streets
Representatives at the Stanislaus County Jail have confirmed that 60 inmates have been released in the past 10 days as the jail is planning a temporary closure of the inmate work quarters wing.

The decision to close that portion of the jail, they said, is directly tied to a staffing shortage.

The inmate work quarters, they said, were used to house detainees who were helping provide food services and janitorial work.

Corrections officials have said that the inmates who have been released had almost served out their sentences and were already eligible for …

Jailbreak For Valentines Day Date

Not Your Typical Valentine Break-up
An Arizona man is in hot water after breaking out of prison on Valentine's Day.

Inmate Joseph Dekenipp said the effort was all in the name of love.  During the escape, he sustained scrapes, cuts, bruises and is now facing additional charges- all because he wanted to see his girlfriend.

Corrections officials say the escape was quite the effort- especially since the detainee had to scale a tall fence and work his way through razor wire in order to make his way off the property.

The inmate and his girlfriend planned to meet at a saloon that was …

Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell picks up another key endorsement
Former LAPD Chief William Bratton has announced he's supporting Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell in the race for LA County Sheriff.

McDonnell worked alongside him during his tenure at the department, he said, and he feels his skills, knowledge of the county and decades of experience will serve the department well.

He also believes McDonnell is the right candidate to help turn the department around.

The LBPD Chief announced his bid for the seat in mid-January, shortly after now-retired LASD Sheriff  Lee Baca announced his early retirement.

Baca left the LASD amid …

Santa Barbara Jail Considers Cut-Off For Night Time Releases

Santa Barbara Jail Considers Cut-Off For Night Time Releases

Late-night released inmates are often stranded without rides
One one hand, they're excited to be out of jail.  On the other, it's dark, it's late, the buses aren't running and they're miles away from town.

Anyone who is familiar with the Santa Barbara Jail will tell you it's relatively secluded, and the problem is that the jail is required to release inmates once their sentence is up.

If that's at 1 o'clock in the morning, so be it.

Approximate nine detainees are released each night between 11 p.m. and sunrise, according to a grand jury report, and inmates aren't being told they can …

Laws That Can Put a Damper on Your Love Life

We are a nation that has its roots set in Puritanical values, so it is not a surprise to find so many laws that try to enforce those same values in even our most intimate situations.

In many states, this is simply an oversight and hasn’t been enforced in ages. Some states, though, are happy to drudge up some of those archaic laws to charge people with if it suit’s a purpose at the time.
Alabama
In Alabama, it is illegal for men to howl at women. But, how else will unsuspecting women know that a man finds them attractive?

This is not …

The Thief, The Peeping Tom And The Parking Lot Brawl

Recent crime keeps San Diego State University Police on their toes
There's been quite a bit of activity on the SDSU campus this week, according to San Diego State University Police- and it all started with a peeping tom incident.

The incident reportedly took place inside a restroom in the physics building, according to sources, but the suspect was long gone by the time officers arrived.

One day prior to that, a non-student was taken into custody at the campus book store after he unsuccessfully tried to shoplift two text books.  Text books are expensive and are a hot commodity on the …
