The caller said the man in question, 34 year-old Juan Hernandez, had assaulter her previously and was trying to break into her home.

When officers arrived at the scene they not only found Hernandez, they saw he was holding a hammer.  Although he was ordered to drop the weapon and …

Got Diversity? Some Say The SDPD Does Not

Minority populations not well represented within the department
Attrition in the San Diego Police Department is dwindling it's diversity.

Current racial break downs show the SDPD has 9 percent fewer Hispanic and 8 percent fewer Asian officers than it did just for years ago.

Recruiting efforts are still going strong, according to department sources, and the department wants to create an ethnically diverse workplace.  For now, however, those efforts are falling short.

If you look at the citywide demographics, less than 50 percent of San Diego residents are Caucasian- but Caucasian officers make up nearly 60 percent of the police force.

Studies have shown …

OC Teacher With Hundreds of Pythons Arrested

At 888bailbond.com we often write about Unusual Laws.

Nearly every time, we remind folks that yup, this is a law because someone did it and lawmakers had to protect the public.

So, when we wrote about Unusual Animal Laws, we did not even think to include "It is illegal to keep hundreds of pythons stacked in your Orange County home."

Maybe if we had, we wouldn't be writing about this...
Hoarding pythons will get you arrested
A Santa Ana schoolteacher was taken into custody last week after authorities found he'd been keeping hundreds, literally hundreds of python snakes both dead and alive in plastic …

LASD Moves On With Interim Sheriff & Election Ready

Baca steps down, interim sheriff John Scott shakes things up
Former OCSD undersheriff John Scott was officially sworn into the LASD last week so he can lead the department until a new, permanent sheriff is elected, and he started making changes immediately.

For example- Scott wasn't on the job for a full day before moving to cancel the field deputy program.

The department employed a total of four civilian field deputies under Lee Baca's watch, and taxpayers had been footing the bill for a nearly half-million dollars in their combined annual salary expense.

One man, Michael Yamaki, was reportedly paid more than $170,000 …

Attorneys allege the jail is at fault for not providing timely medical care
Two Monterey County Jail inmates died earlier this month after not receiving prompt medical attention for what's been described as flu-like symptoms.

David Stevens, 58, was reportedly taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to the illness within the week.   The family attorney said Stevens told him he'd filled out several slips requesting to see a jail doctor.

Two weeks later, 33 year-old Jacob Parenti also died after not receiving prompt treatment.  His sister said his condition had gotten so bad that he'd started to cough up …

$38.9M State Grant Awarded Toward Santa Barbara Jail Expansion

$500 million in state grant funding has been awarded to CA jails this year
The Santa Barbara Jail has confirmed the county has been awarded a $38.9 million state grant that will help them build a 228-bed wing on the yet-to-be-built North County Jail

That wing, they said, will reportedly provide programs aimed at helping reduce recidivism rates.

Jail officials say the funds were much needed- especially now that they're holding more inmates due to the state's prisoner realignment program.  Not only will the money allow them to add bed space, it will also help provide programs designed to help offenders reintegrate …

OC Undersheriff To Lead Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department

When LASD Sheriff Lee Baca announced his retirement, John Scott wasn't on his short-list of interim replacements.  Baca was hopeful Assistant Sheriff Terri McDonald would get the job.

But once the LA County Board of Supervisors learned she lacked the proper credentials, they set their sights on someone else.

That search, according a source within that office, led them south of the county line, right to the doorstep of Orange County Undersheriff John Scott.

Scott is no stranger to the LASD.   In fact, he served as the department’s chief of custody operations for a number of years before making the move to …

LAPD Officers Being Trained To Use Gunshot Wound Trauma Kits

LAPD Officers Being Trained To Use Gunshot Wound Trauma Kits

In a day and age where mass shooting incidents are becoming more and more common, the LAPD wants its officers to be prepared.

Officers are often the first ones to the scene, they said, and if an adult or a minor child is in need of medical attention, there's a chance paramedics won't be able to treat them until the area is secured.

This is why officers are being trained to use combat-style trauma kits.

These kits will not only contain your every day first aid items; they will also include things such as tourniquets and compression bandages, which are used to …
