Two members of a criminal street gang are locked up in the Santa Ana Jail, awaiting transfers to state prison for participating in crimes with the Mexican Mafia, Orange County Weekly reported.

Douglas Joseph Jackovich and Kirk Ray Butterfas of the Forming Kaos gang were sentenced to serve 100 months and 41 months in prison, respectively. FBI agents found the gang to be a subservient criminal organization to the Mexican Mafia's activities in Orange County, according to OC Weekly.

Jackovich is a convicted methamphetamine dealer and Butterfas continued to work with FK members in an extortion plot while he was in jail on other charges, the article stated. Jackovich had his prison sentenced reduced from 175 months because he participated in jail rehabilitation programs including "Attitude for Success" and "Effective Parenting."

While Santa Ana is home to an estimated 5,000 documented gang members, earlier this summer, the Santa Ana Police Department reported that violent gang crime in the community has been declining in recent years, according to the Orange County Register.

In 2011, Santa Ana had a 45 percent decline in gang-related homicides. And, this year, the department said there has been an additional 40 percent decrease in violent gang activity, the Register article stated. Gang-related homicides in Santa Ana are now down to levels not seen since 2000.
