Man Accused Of Killing Bakersfield Bail Bondsmen Pleads No Contest

The man who has been accused of murdering two bail bondsmen in April 2012 has entered a "no contest" plea with the court.

The defendant, 28 year-old Stephen Stewart is set to be scheduled toward the end of next month and in exchange for the plea, his murder charges and other felonies will be dismissed. Instead, Stewart will be sentenced on two counts of voluntary manslaughter.

Bondsmen throughout the country traveled to Kern County to mourn the loss of brothers Brandon and Zachary Sims, and Dog the Bounty Hunter, aka Duane Chapman, also flew in from Hawaii.

Dog The Bounty Hunter Stands Up For Wisconsin Bail Industry

Duane Chapman, AKA Dog the Bounty Hunter, is standing up for the Wisconsin bail bonds industry.

Until recently, Wisconsin was one of four states that had outlawed for-profit bail bonds.  Recent legislation seems to have overturned that ruling. Lawmakers may have decided to give reintroduction of the industry a trial run.
 
Bail bonding had been outlawed in the cheese state about 35 years ago.  It was at this time that judges in Milwaukee County were reportedly accepting gifts, trips and meals from an area bondsman. Some legislators still feel the industry is (more…)
