A man suspected of stealing a 78-year-old woman's purse January 4 has been arrested by police and booked into the Santa Ana jail.
The Orange County Register reported Santa Ana police suspect 34-year-old Michael Travis Hunt was the man who ripped the purse from the woman's shoulder while she was walking on Harbor Boulevard near West First Street shortly before noon.
A witness of the robbery ran after the suspect and pointed police in the direction of his travel. At the time they arrived at the intersection the witness said he saw the robber, he was gone, and the purse had been dropped on the ground, the article stated. Some contents of the purse were missing, however.
Witnesses later called police when the suspected robber was seen again near the intersection of Harbor Boulevard and Fifth Street. The Register said police responded and arrested Hunt without a struggle. Hunt is a resident of Costa Mesa.
Another suspected robber in Orange County was recently caught by police. A Register article stated police have arrested Benjamin Kuahuia, a Long Beach gang member, in connection to a September armed robbery of an antique store. DNA evidence at the store and on the store clerk, who was bound and beaten during the robbery, led Huntington Police to identify Kuahuia as a suspect in the case.
He is also facing charges of selling methamphetamine, police told the news source. Kuahuia has faced numerous charges in the past. In 2010, he pleaded guilty to charges of armed robbery in Santa Monica and spent four months in Los Angeles County Jail. The antique store robbery occurred five days after he was released from jail, according to the Register.
