Orange County Cities See Major Drop In Violent Crime

Sources within the Orange County law enforcement community have confirmed that yes, violent crime rates throughout the region are down year-on-year.

The dip in some regions has been so significant that some cities are describing it as being "dramatic".

Nearly every area in the county has reported declines, according to a recent FBI report.  Orange County Sheriff Sandra Hutchens said this can be largely attributed to federal, state and local law enforcement agencies working hand-in-hand.

With everyone working together, and using available technology, amazing things have happened.

OC Jail Expansion Proposal Inches Forward

The saga surrounding the proposed expansion of the James Musick Jail continues
The county says they need to add more bed space to accommodate the influx of prisoners that are being shifted to OC jails due to the state's inmate realignment program.

State Greenlights $80M Grant For Musick Jail Expansion

There are a lot of people who don't want to see an expansion at the Musick Jail.   A California state board, however, is not among them.

As of late last week, they'd approved an $80 million construction grant, which will be used to add bed space, create therapy rooms and focus on rehabilitation efforts.   Classroom space and additional dorms will also be built.

Musick Jail Expansion Proponents Still Duking It Out With Irvine

When it comes to getting an approval for expansion of the James A. Musick Jail, both sides are coming at it gloves off.  The city of Irvine, however, has been knocked out in the latest round.

Elected officials were hoping their appeal to the Fourth District Court would quash the project, arguing it should have been reviewed under the California Environmental Quality Act.   The justices disagreed and have said at this point, Orange County has merely applied for state funding.  Construction, they said, is not yet moving forward.

Supervisors Approve Musick Jail Expansion

Phase two of the James A. Musick Jail expansion project has been officially green lighted by the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

A first expansion at the Irvine facility was approved last December, and at that time, the board had allocated $100 million in state grant monies to fund construction that would ultimately add 512 beds.

The OC Sheriff's Department has confirmed that the design for phase one is already underway.

Now, the county is waiting to hear back from Sacramento to learn whether $80 million of that grant can be reallocated to fund what they describe as being phase two. Phase …

Orange County Hopes To Expand Musick Jail

Sources within the Orange County Sheriff's Department have confirmed the department is requesting state funding which would be earmarked to expand the Musick Jail.

If everything goes a planned, the county could receive up to $80 million dollars.  This isn't to say that the facility is ready to break ground on a new wing.  There is a lot that still needs to be worked out.
