A 47-year-old man is being held at the Orange County Jail on suspicion of home burglary and for committing a crime while out of bail, the Orange County Register reported. Officers found Nhan Quoc Che is leaving the entryway of a Westminster home around 10 a.m. January 9 wearing gloves. Police had received a frantic 911 call from the resident of the home saying she heard someone trying to get into the house through the front and back doors, the article stated.

Police are also investigating whether or not Che is tied to other burglaries in the area, the Register reported.

'Father-son' team suspected of home robbery
Police in Orange County are also on the lookout for a man suspected of robbing residents. CW affiliate KTLA reported the man, who allegedly identifies himself as a roofing contractor, uses a young teenage boy as his accomplice to distract residents as he robs them. The man approaches residents and offers them roofing services. If the resident accepts the offer, as an 86-year-old man in San Clemente recently did, the suspected robber gets to work on the roof. He asks the homeowner to watch his "son" as he does so.

The teenage boy works to distract the resident as the man goes around the home stealing goods, the article stated. The recent 86-year-old man lost $200,000 in jewelry in the scheme.

Several of these distraction-type robberies have occurred in southern Orange County, but this is the first case of a robber using a teenage boy as an accomplice, KTLA reported.

CNS reported the suspected burglar is described as white and in his 50s. Police released a composite sketch of what they believe the man looks like.

The man told the 86-year-old resident that he had been recently working on a neighbor's roof. The man gained entry into the home after telling the resident he came across a bad tile and should check inside for a leak.

Jim Amormino of the Orange County Sheriff's Department told the source  the teenage boy, suspected to be between 12 and 14 years old, had been trained in how to act during the robbery.

"The boy was definitely trained in distraction," Amormino said. "He knew exactly how to keep him occupied."

The missing jewelry was discovered when the resident's wife came home after the robbery, the article stated.
