Irvine, California, police and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents recently arrested a couple after they found 40 vials and 20,000 steroid pills in their home. According to Gant Daily, 27-year-old Carlos Hernandez and 30-year-old Roxanne Hernandez were arrested and detained at the Orange County jail on April 3, where they remain on a $500,000 bail for suspicion of trafficking steroids illegally. In addition to finding the substances, police told the source they found incriminating evidence that can prove that the couple was converting powdered steroids to liquid form and not only selling it locally, but nationally and internationally as well. The police conducted the search after U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel seized a package addressed to the couple from a Bay Area mail screening facility. According to Imperial Valley News, the screening device detected four pounds of powdered steroids in the package.

During the search of the couple's home, the police officers also found three handguns, a shotgun, a rifle with large capacity magazines, packaging materials and more than $6,000 in cash. After the two were arrested, Homeland Security Investigations Special Agent Claude Arnold released a statement warning the public that homemade steroids are significantly more dangerous than ones sold on the market.

"The underground production and sale of steroids poses a serious health threat," he said. "These are powerful chemicals under any circumstances, but the risks increase exponentially when you're dealing with homemade counterfeits that are being taken without a doctor's supervision."

Doctor awaits trial regarding charges of illegally distributing pain medication
If an individual is suspected of manufacturing or distributing illegal substances in California, it is more than likely they will be arrested for their alleged crime. According to The Associated Press, 44-year-old Alvin Mingczech Yee recently entered into a plea agreement in which he will plead guilty to seven counts of illegally distributing a controlled substance and was accused of selling prescriptions for cash at his April 17 hearing. Yee is alleged to have illegally prescribed medications such as OxyContin and Vicodin to patients illegally. According to the source, the Orange County doctor is suspected of being involved in several overdose deaths of patients, including a 21-year-old Huntington Beach woman. Investigators seized large amounts of the medications from suspected drug dealers in Phoenix, Seattle and Detroit. Yee was released on bond after his October 2011 arrest, however, if convicted, his charges are expected to total up to 10 years in prison.
