San Diego Sheriff’s Department investigates robberies

The San Diego Sheriff's Department is investigating a series of robberies involving convenience stores in the El Cajon and Lakeside neighborhoods. According to ABC affiliate 10 News, the robberies occurred during a span of two hours at four different 7-Eleven convenience stores in the early morning hours of February 18. Reports said the suspect was armed and video footage revealed he was wearing a "Sith" mask from the "Star Wars" movies.

Along with the mask, the suspect was also wearing a black jacket or sweatshirt with a hood. According to CBS affiliate KFMB, the man was carrying a small semi-automatic handgun.

Female arrested, taken to Las Colinas Detention Facility

After leading police on a chase, a woman and her male accomplice were arrested by local police. The female, 24-year-old Adriana Martinez, was taken to Las Colinas Detention Facility in Santee. According to CBS affiliate KFMB, Martinez led police on a pursuit at around 5:45 p.m. on February 18.

Martinez and a male passenger were signaled to stop after a patrol officer ran the license plate of the Honda and it came back as a stolen vehicle. A San Diego Police Department captain's son pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery. The incident leading up to the charges occurred in August 2012 near a Pacific Beach taco shop. According to NBC San Diego, Alex Guaderrama allegedly assaulted two women and punched another in the face. He also reportedly broke a car window causing more than $400 of damage before leaving the scene the night of the incident.

The San Diego Sheriff's Department offers a program that allows inmates to receive emails from family and friends. Those wishing to reach an inmate can located the inmate through the jail system online and fill in the appropriate information in order to send the emails, according to the sheriff's department.

Officials said anyone who sends an email to an inmate should expect it to be read by jail staff. The emails will be scanned for prohibited information before they are printed out and delivered to the inmate. Individuals are limited to two messages per day and may not send any confidential or legal …

San Diego Police Department officer honored in funeral

Community members throughout San Diego gathered in Riverside February 13 to honor 34-year-old Michael Crain, who was allegedly killed by the rogue ex-Los Angeles police officer Chris Dorner. According to San Diego ABC affiliate KABC, Crain, an 11-year veteran of the department, and another officer stopped at a red light during a routine patrol February 7 moments before Dorner ambushed them and fired at them using a rifle.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Crain was a Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton and served two tours of duty in Kuwait. Crain will leavehis wife, 10-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter behind.

Search continues for dangerous former police officer

Police throughout California are continuing the search for 33-year-old Christopher Jordan Dorner. According to CBS affiliate KFMB, authorities are offering $1 million to anyone who is able to help them track down the suspect, and some of the money is believed to have been donated by the San Diego Police Officers Association. The amount is the largest local reward San Diego Police Department has ever offered, and they are not planning on giving up until they are able to find Dorner.

A San Diego police detective is facing DUI charges after he was involved in a traffic accident while off duty. ABC News reported that police gang detective Jeffrey Blackford is scheduled to be arraigned on two misdemeanor DUI counts February 20, at which time he must report for the booking process. Blackford is an 11-year member of the San Diego Police Department.

On January 26, an officer from the San Diego Police Department was involved in a shooting in the Mira Mesa neighborhood, according to CBS. The incident left one man injured with non-life-threatening injures from the gunshot wound.

San Diego police officer escapes injury pursuing suspect

A San Diego police officer attempted to stop a potential suspect by jumping on a moving motorcycle January 24. NBC reported that the police officer was on the lookout for a stolen motorcycle when he encountered the suspect.

Three robbed at ATMs

The San Diego Sheriff's Department is investigating three different robberies they believe were committed by the same individual between January 16 and January 21 in the neighborhoods of Santee and El Cajon.

Officials say an armed suspect approached a customer at a Mission Federal Credit Union ATM just before 11:00 p.m. January 16 and demanded the victim to withdraw the maximum amount of money possible, NBC reported. The suspect then grabbed the money from the victim before driving off.
