Kidnapping suspect held on $1 million bail bond

The Los Angeles Police Department recently arrested a man they suspect is responsible for kidnapping a 10-year-old girl on March 27. According to CBS Los Angeles, police arrested 29-year-old Daniel Martinez on March 31 in the 18200 block of Rayen Street in Northridge, California. Los Angeles Police Department Cmdr. Andrew Smith told the source officers with the department's Robbery-Homicide Division were able to gather information regarding Martinez's whereabouts, which led to his arrest.

Martinez has a criminal record that dates back to 2004. Some of his past charges include burglary, petty theft, grand theft, resisting arrest, unlawful entry and causing bodily injury. He is currently being …

Woman taken to Los Colinas Detention Center

A woman was recently arrested on suspicion of murder and taken to Las Colinas women's jail in Santee after her husband died from a gunshot wound to his chest. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the man and woman were reportedly fighting for a gun inside a San Diego apartment on March 23 when he was shot.

San Diego Police Department investigates robberies

The San Diego Police Department opened an investigation after two armed robberies occurred in Rancho Bernardo and Clairemont​ on March 22, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

The first robbery was reported at CVS at 12:01 a.m. on Bernardo Center Drive. The article said the robber was armed with a semi-automatic handgun. He walked into the store and demanded the cashier to hand over money. The suspect reportedly took the money as well as cigarettes before he fled the scene.

Det. Suspects arrested and taken to Vista Detention Facility

Five individuals were arrested by the San Diego County Sheriff's Department on March 15 for drug-related charges. A month-long investigation is what led officials to a Fallbrook​ home where the suspects allegedly kept drugs and stolen property, NBC 7 San Diego reported. The drug charges include possession of heroin.

Law enforcement officials served a search warrant for the home on Juliette Place, which led to the arrest of the individuals inside. Officials said the five suspects arrested for the drug-related charges include Jose Barreto, Erika Favela, Joshua O'Brien, Michael Ochoa and Billy Painter, according to NBC 7.

Authorities from the San Diego Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in Valencia Park March 14. ABC affiliate KGTV reported a man in his 20s was killed near Jacinto Drive and Trinidad Way in the San Diego neighborhood.

Witnesses reportedly saw a medium-sized sport-utility vehicle drive away from the area after the shooting occurred, but no suspects have been identified.

San Diego Police Department honors women for their work

Three female San Diego Police Department officers were recognized for their outstanding work at the third annual Women in Blue San Diego Police Foundation luncheon on March 13. According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, San Diego police Capt. Lori Luhnow, police supervising crime analyst Karen Goodman and child abuse investigations expert Donna Pence were each honored at the event by their colleagues. The three women have a combined 85 years of service to the San Diego community.

The San Diego Police Foundation's website stated that the Women in Blue event raised more than $20,000 last year, which the organization uses to strengthen the community and make it safer.

Six people in San Diego have been fatally hit by cars while crossing the street since the start of 2013. In an attempt to reduce the number of fatal accidents in the future, the San Diego Police Department recently launched a campaign urging pedestrians and residents to be as safe and not jaywalk, according to Fox affiliate KSWB. San Diego Police Department Lt. Steve Hutchinson told the source the department will have 42 of its units patrolling the city to enforce the anti-jaywalking campaign. According to San Diego ABC affiliate KGTV, a 58-year old man was sent to a San Diego hospital after he was struck by a pickup truck on March 9 at 54th Street and Westover Place.
