Search continues for dangerous former police officer

Police throughout California are continuing the search for 33-year-old Christopher Jordan Dorner. According to CBS affiliate KFMB, authorities are offering $1 million to anyone who is able to help them track down the suspect, and some of the money is believed to have been donated by the San Diego Police Officers Association. The amount is the largest local reward San Diego Police Department has ever offered, and they are not planning on giving up until they are able to find Dorner.

Crime Fighting Plans Discussed By SFPD

A spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department has said that steps will be taken in 2013 to lessen the number of violent crimes in the current year from levels reported in the previous 12 months.

Criminal activity has been a problem throughout the Bay Area, he said, agreeing that more needed to be done to increase safety on city and neighborhood streets.  Murder rates were up last year, having reached their highest level since 2006.  Crimes against property, such as burglary, also spiked by 40%.  Some have cited a belief that these rates could be directly linked to the …

San Joaquin Sheriff’s Deputies Honored

Members of the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department and Tracy Police Department were honored this weekend as part of the American Legion's annual Officers and Firefighters of the Year ceremony.  The ceremony is held at the beginning of each year as a way to recognize key individuals who have dedicated their careers to keeping people safe. Tickets to the event were $10 in advance or at the door.

Martinez Jail Officials Report Death Of Inmate

A spokesperson for the Martinez Jail has confirmed that an inmate died late last week due to an unknown medical problem.  It is unclear how long ago the 43 year-old man had been booked into the Contra Costa County Jail system.  Additional information relating to his charges, bail amount and whether he was awaiting trial or had been sentenced has not been released.

A spokesperson for the jail said the man was found unresponsive shortly after 4 a.m.  Jail medical staff tried to revive him but those attempts were not successful.  Paramedic crews were then called but their life-saving efforts fell …

Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrest suspected burglars

The effectiveness of the prison realignment system in California may face more scrutiny after two parolees were recently arrested. The two men were reportedly a part of more than 100 break-ins that occurred in Orange County since October. According to CBS, four individuals were arrested after police followed up a call about strangers ringing doorbells in the Yorba Linda neighborhood.

Of the four arrested, two had previously been charged with burglary and were on parole. CBS reported the individuals who violated terms of their probation were Andrew Gatlin and Terrence Collins.

The Berkeley Police Department has announced they were able to capture and arrest three Sacramento residents who are believed to have run over a man after a botched robbery attempt.  The incident is said to have taken place in Dec. 2012.

Authorities release video from elementary school robbery

On January 26, three individuals broke into an elementary school and stole more than 50 iPads according to The Beach Reporter. The suspected robbers - two males and one female- entered two fifth-grade classrooms by breaking the windows. They then proceeded to use a bolt cutter in order to break through the locked covers on the charging carts housing the devices. The scene  was discovered Sunday morning when school employees discovered the mess left by the robbery.

Woman charged with 95 counts of forgery and theft

A woman from was recently arrested on 95 charges of theft and forgery. Sandy Delgado allegedly stole from the family she worked for as a housekeeper and nanny, according to the San Mateo County Times. She is being held at the San Mateo County Jail in lieu of $950,000 bail.

Her employer suspected she had stolen from them and reported it to police, launching an investigation in mid-January. Investigators suspect Delgado has been stealing from the family for the last four years.

Man given jail time after allegedly running over teen’s bike

A man who was arrested after he allegedly tried to run over two brothers on their bikes in downtown San Mateo last summer was sentenced to jail January 13. Jason Ramiro Hernandez-Lopez was given 90 days in jail. In November, he pleaded no contest to making felony threats in return for a four-month maximum sentence, according to the Daily Journal. His charges will also be dropped to a misdemeanor after he successfully completes half of his probation.
