Police have identified the man who was recently found stabbed to death in a Santa Ana parking lot at the Hickory Plaza, according to the Orange County Register. The Santa Ana Police Department responded to calls of a man covered in blood, and found the victim later identified as 38-year-old Jaime Mejia Zaragoza.

The Register reported that Zaragoza died from several stab wounds to his upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities believe Zaragoza, whom they determined as “on and off homeless,” frequented the plaza. Investigators also believe that there were other individuals with Zaragoza in the parking lot in the time leading up to the stabbing. However, the parking lot was abandoned by the time police arrived, and no weapon was found at the crime scene. Police have not identified any suspects in the case as they continue to investigate.

Santa Ana police are also investigating a fatal shooting of a 20 year-old man in the 800 block of North Figueroa Street.

The Register reported Ruben Gonzalez Jr. was shot behind an empty commercial building. Officers found Gonzalez after receiving reports about a shooting at approximately 11:40 p.m., according to the Register. The victim was transported to a hospital where he later died from his wounds.

The police gang unit is investigating Gonzalez's death but has not confirmed that the shooting is gang-related.
