7 Aspects of Bail Reduction

High Bail Amounts
Sometimes, a client’s bail amount is very high and neither the defendant or the family is able to pay the bail bond fee or provide adequate collateral. Generally, we're talking big dollars: $200,000 or a million dollar bail.

If this is the case, the only way a defendant can make bail is by asking for the bail to be reduced. Keep in mind, a bail reduction hearing takes time. An attorney needs to get the case in front of a judge and that's not a quick-fix

A bail bondsman can aid this process by providing a beneficial testimony at …

Who Started Law Enforcement Militarization?

After the recent events in Ferguson, MO, there's been a lot of conversation about whether the government should continue its practice of giving military gear to local law enforcement agencies.

Where did law enforcement militarization begin in the US, we should be wondering.

According to Robert Slayton, a Chapman University professor we should be looking back to the 1950s and LAPD Chief William Parker.

When Chief Parker took over the department, a number of changes took place:

First, they started hiring officers based on merit (as opposed to the former "old boy network" or who knew who within the city's political ranks).
Parker started …

Uber-bad Decisions?

California State Senator Ben Hueso may be rethinking his decision to vote against ride-sharing after being arrested on a DUI just hours after voting casting a vote which is considered against the ride-share industry.

Last Thursday night, just hours after he voted in favor of adding hefty regulations to the popular taxi-alternative services, he was picked up by the California Highway Patrol after he was seen driving the wrong way down a one way street.

Hueso was booked into the Sacramento County Jail on two counts of misdemeanor DUI.  He was released the following morning after posting $1,500 bail bonds.

How Flawed Is GPS Tracking Technology?

These days, thanks to jail realignment, more and more inmates are being released from custody using GPS monitoring devices.

Some of them have yet to be convicted; others have been sentenced for their crimes.  Recent reports show that in Orange County, two convicted sex offenders who were released from the Orange County Jail on ankle-bracelet monitoring are now facing murder charges.

Both men had not only cut the devices off, they fled to Las Vegas.  When authorities realized what happened they didn't send these men back to jail.  Instead, they got a slap on the wrist, had the bracelets re-attached and …

Wrongful Conviction?

It almost sounds like a soap opera: she's doing time but it was a wrongful conviction.

How does that happen?

Probably no surprise that "eye witnesses" make mistakes, forensics are sometimes wrong and people just plain make stuff up.

But did you know that people confess to what they did not do?

SLO Women’s Jail Finally Breaks Ground

Sources close to the San Louis Obispo Sheriff's Department say the long-awaited women's jail expansion project is finally underway.

The plan has been talked about for more than a decade, according to officials, and now that it's finally broken ground the added space should help reduce the facility's overcrowding problem.

The expanded facility will include a 46,000 square foot jail and more than 75 percent of that space will be allocated for housing.  Blueprints show it will add 198 beds and will have space to provide educational and counseling programs.

Eight thousand square feet will be allocated for medical care facilities that …

High OC Jail Collect-Call Fees To Be Addressed

Anyone who has ever received a collect phone call from someone in the Orange County Jail will tell you the cost is very very high.

The situation is so bad, according to sources, that the County Board of Supervisors is going to address the issue later this week.

At least one elected official has pointed out the high cost makes it hard for inmates to connect with family members, which keeps them from being able to lean on loved ones for support while they're behind bars.
