A spokesperson for the LASD Norwalk Station has confirmed that Capt. Curtis Jensen is settling into his new role as the station's commander.
Jensen has been in the area for a number of years. The 53 year-old was born in Lynwood and graduated from the local high school. His tenure with the LASD has spanned more than three decades.
A spokesperson for the department said he has worked many stations including those in Pico Rivera, Los Angeles, Commerce and Lynwood. He has worked in a variety of capacities including unit commander. Jensen served in that role at the Regional Services Center and the Commercial Crimes Bureau at the training academy.
The new Captain said he looks forward to becoming more familiar with areas served by the LASD Norwalk Station. Increasing community relationships is a top priority, he said. Strong partnerships between law enforcement and local leaders can help reduce crime.
The department has confirmed that Jensen has already met with many elected officials. The next thing on his to-do list involves becoming acquainted with area residents. This will be accomplished by attending carnivals, picnics, festivals and other community events.
People who regularly attend city council meetings will see him there, too.
In terms of his opinion on local crime rates, Jensen said Norwalk and surrounding communities are no better or worse than their counterparts. He is also undecided as to whether the state's prisoner realignment program has led to upticks in criminal activity.
Jensen said he is too new to the area to make a final determination.
The new Captain reportedly replaces Patrick Maxwell, who was promoted to commander. Maxwell will oversee LASD stations in Carson, Lakewood, Lomita, Pico Rivera and Norwalk.
Jensen has been married for three decades and has two children. He was a USMC reservist from 1979 to 1985 and received an English literature degree from Cal State San Bernardino. Representatives from the LASD Norwalk Station say they are excited to have Jensen at the helm.
