Law enforcement officials were able to track down and arrest 32-year-old Tobias Summers in Mexico on April 24. As previously reported, Summers was wanted for the abduction of a 10-year-old girl from her home on March 27. According to NBC Los Angeles, Mexican authorities were able to capture Summers after acting on a tip from the FBI alerting them of his possible whereabouts in a rehabilitation clinic.
Once authorities arrived to the clinic, they were able to identify Summers by a Superman tattoo on his chest. Following his arrest, he was returned to Los Angeles County where he will be held in prison for the alleged kidnapping. Summers has already been charged for the crime. On April 3, police charged him with 37 felony counts - one of kidnapping a child, one of burglary, one of kidnapping to commit another crime. During the search for Summers, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Charlie Beck said he and his team were doing everything in their power to make sure that they were able to track him down.
"We could never make whole the lives of that family and the young girl after this horrific event, but we can and we will and we do make plain to anybody in this city that thinks that they can commit that kind of crime and remain free after doing so, we can make sure that they know that that is not true," Beck said. "We'll hunt you. We'll find you. You cannot hide."
Summers has a criminal past
The Los Angeles Police Department charged Summers alongside 30-year-old Daniel Martinez for his alleged involvement in the situation. Summers is believed to have entered the girl's home and abducted her at knife point and dropped her off outside of a local hospital 12 hours later, where she was treated for injuries.
Summers has a long history of crimes that date back to 2002. According to The Los Angeles Times, he also has several other convictions including battery, receiving stolen property, grand theft, petty theft, possession of an explosive ad presenting false identification to police. The Los Angeles District Attorney told ABC affiliate KABC that he faces multiple life terms if convicted for his alleged crimes. Summers is currently being held in a local jail on a $19 million Los Angeles bail bond.
