The Los Angeles Police Department is currently searching for two men suspected of kidnapping a 10-year-old girl from her home and holding her hostage for about 12 hours. According to The Associated Press, investigators are trying to determine how the young girl ended up with cuts and bruises on her face and body. The child told investigators that after removing her from her home, the two strangers took her to various locations before dropping her off at a nearby hospital.

If the suspects are caught and arrested, they will likely be brought to jail and held on a bail bond.

After discovering their daughter was missing at around 3:30 a.m., her parents reported her missing and notified the authorities. They released the girl's name, description and photograph with a message urging any members of the public to come forward if they had any information. According to the AP, someone recognized the girl from the photograph her parents provided and alerted police officers immediately.

Once the girl was found, her parents requested the media stop using her name and photograph due to confidentiality purposes and the fact that she is a juvenile that has been the victim of a serious crime. LAPD Cmdr. Andrew Smith said he and his team will continue to investigate the situation and bring justice to the girl's family.

"Right now we're looking at this as an abduction, a stranger abduction, one of those things that's very, very rare in this country but does happen," he said.

Potential link to former 2008 abduction
Investigators believe that the case might be related to a similar event that took place several years ago. According to The Los Angeles Times, police are attempting to determine whether there is a link between the March 27 abduction of the child and the kidnapping of three children in 2008. The event that took place five years ago grabbed national attention when authorities alleged that two brothers captured their own children and took them to various countries before they were tracked down in the Netherlands in 2010. Record show that the children kidnapped in 2008 are related to the 10-year-old girl recently kidnapped. The two men were arrested and sent to jail. Smith said they will continue to do what they can to figure out what happened to the girl.

"We're going to search every facet of this case, to find out what happened, and to get to the bottom of it," he said. "It's every parent's nightmare: In the middle of the night you go check on your child […] your child is gone."
