Authorities from the Torrance Police Department arrested four suspected robbers after a three-month investigation. According to the police department, the suspects stole women's clothing and accessories from local retail stores. It is believed the suspects hid the stolen goods under their clothing before walking out of the store.
The four suspects are between the ages of 20 and 26 and were identified as Javon Zachery and Reginald Wilson from Compton, Dean Hampton from Lynwoodand Avion Speed from Bellflower. Torrance police said they were able to connect them to 16 burglaries in Torrance and more than 50 burglaries in Los Angeles County.
The four men will be charged with multiple counts of commercial burglary, conspiracy to commit a crime and possession of stolen property, according to Torrance police.
Investigators were also able to determine the men belong to a street gang from Compton, which led to gang enhancements added to to the men's charges. Police said this could result in longer sentences and make them ineligible for early release.
According to the Long Beach Press-Telegram, the four men allegedly stole from Marshalls, T.J. Maxx and Ross department stores and would later sell the items in order to make money. The article said thousands of dollars worth of merchandise was taken from the stores.
"It all started with a routine traffic stop by patrol which uncovered the initial theft at Marshalls and, through their investigation with work from our gang detail, they were able to uncover the bigger picture," Torrance police Sgt. Robert Watt said.
Police recently served warrants in Compton and Bellflower and found stolen property that linked the men to the crime, the Press-Telegram reported.
The report did not state whether a Torrance bail bond was issued to the men after their arrest.
