Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested a man they believe stabbed his girlfriend to death February 20. According to CBS Los Angeles, Emilio Martinez was arrested March 5 in connection to the February murder.

The victim was identified as 63-year old Carmen King, who was found dead in her home in Montebello with multiple stab wounds, CBS reported. While investigating the incident, the sheriff's department quickly identified Martinez as a person of interest.

After detectives learned he had fled to Mexico, he was deemed a suspect, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.

Authorities were able to locate Martinez and communicated with him while on the run, according to the Tribune. Eventually, the sheriff's department was able to convince him to turn himself in. He was arrested along the Mexican border at the San Ysidro Point of Entry.

After his arrest, Martinez was brought back to California where the sheriff's department said he is being held on $1 million bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

When individuals are held on bail while awaiting a court date, they may be released through a Los Angeles county bail bond.
