A convict escaped from a minimum-security jail December 20, and Orange County police are requesting the public's help in finding the escapee. According to CBS LA, authorities continued their search on December 21 for 35-year-old escaped convict Marvin Manzo. Manzo was discovered to be missing from the low-security James A. Musick Jail during a body count around 9 p.m. on Thursday, leading authorities to immediately perform a thorough search of the area.
According to a report in the OC Register, authorities believe that Manzo escaped by climbing over the razor wire at the minimum-security facility, which sits between Lake Forest and Irvine.
Manzo is not considered to be a violent criminal or a threat to the public, but has a history of narcotics and theft charges. The OC Register cited Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Lloyd Downing, who revealed that Manzo was possibly injured during his escape, from the wiring along the top of the fence.
An additional report from the OC Register indicated that Manzo had been in custody since November 2, convicted of grand theft, attempted grand theft, vandalism and resisting arrest. His official sentence was 180 days in jail and three years probation following his release.
"Under new sentencing guidelines, Manzo could have been eligible for release with good behavior after serving half of his sentence," contributor Salvador Hernandez wrote for the Orange County Register. "If he is found by authorities, he could face additional charges, and time, for the escape."
Manzo is 5-foot 3-inches tall, Hispanic, roughly 135 pounds, has short black hair and brown eyes. Anyone with information about Manzo or his whereabouts is being urged to contact the Orange County Sheriff's Department.
