The alleged Fashion Island shopping center shooter, 42-year-old Marcos Sarinana Gurrola, was ordered to be held in Orange County Jail without bail, according to OC Weekly.

Gurrola was taken into custody on December 15 after allegedly firing more than 50 shots outside a Newport Beach mall. The man reportedly fired into the air and at the ground, with some witnesses saying he never pointed the weapon at any individual. While the shopping center was placed on lockdown, no one was killed or injured in this incident.

"According to witness statements, we had a male who was shooting a weapon into the air and also at the ground, standing by a vehicle," Orange County police spokesperson Kathy Lowe told KNBC. "This was an isolated incident. At no time was he observed pointing the weapon at anyone."

When the Newport Beach mall went on lockdown, Gurrola was arrested by bicycle police patrolmen, KNBC stated. OC Weekly reported that Orange County Deputy District Attorney Robert Mestman specifically argued against bail for Gurrola, claiming that upon his arrest, Gurrola confessed to 10 additional shootings that took place in Orange County since April of this year.

OC Weekly reported that Gurrola is formally charged with 54 counts of discharging a gun in public. Gurrola is also being charged with two counts of assault, as a mother and 4-year-old daughter claimed injuries that resulted from being knocked to the ground by frantic shoppers trying to get away from the sounds of gunfire. The source indicated that if Gurrola is convicted on all counts that he is charged with, he could receive a maximum sentence of 115 years in prison.

"He claimed when he fired his gun, it made him feel better," Newport Beach Detective G. Fitzgerald stated in an affidavit meant to support Gurrola being held without bail, according to the OC Register.

Numerous news sources drew a connection between Gurrola's reported gun firing and the tragic Connecticut school shooting that occurred just one day prior.

Bail may not be an option for Gurrola as he is considered a danger to others, but bail bonds are an option for most people who are arrested in Orange County and the rest of the state. California bail bondsmen are available to provide any additional information needed about the bail bond process, including details about bail bonds costs, bail bond payment plans, online bail and more.
