After being booked into the Santa Ana Jail earlier this month, a man suspected of stabbing his ex-wife has been released by authorities pending further investigation, the Orange County Register reported.
The 74-year-old man, Kenneth Finefield, called 911 and said he found his wife Macaria dead in her bed with a chest stab wound. He was later taken for questioning by the Santa Ana Police Department and then booked into the city jail. He has not been charged with murder, because the Orange County district attorney requested that additional investigation take place, the Register reported. Authorities have not released autopsy results for Macaria.
The Los Angeles Times reported Macaria was 71 years old, and despite being divorced from Kenneth Finefield, the two still lived together. A spokesperson for the Santa Ana police said there was no information about any motive that may have led to Finefield killing his ex-wife, the article stated. Authorities also did not know the extent of the Macaria's stab wounds or if there were other causes of death.
Macaria had been arrested and faced second-degree murder charges in 2004, the Register reported. The charges were filed in connection to a 1974 stabbing murder of a pregnant woman from Tijuana who was staying at Macaria's home while searching for a husband she believed was living in Los Angeles. Macaria told authorities that she didn't mean to kill the woman, but was "instead attempting to deliver the baby with a kitchen knife, a pail of hot water and no anesthetic," after the woman suffered a fall, the article stated. Authorities believed she had disposed of the woman's body in Mexico, but decided to not pursue charges against Macaria because she had already spent three years in a Mexican prison in connection with the murder.
