Santa Cruz Jail Inmate Accidentally Released

A spokesperson for the Santa Cruz Jail has confirmed that an inmate has been mistakenly released.  Authorities say the mix-up occurred when the man in question posed as another inmate who had a similar height, weight, build and name.    An investigation team is currently looking into why the man's identity was not properly verified prior to letting the man go.

Defendant Jesse Parsons was reportedly last seen walking out of the jail and toward the San Lorenzo River.  The last visual contact of Parsons came just before noon on Monday.  At the time he was set free he was seen …

Lobby Reopened At Santa Cruz County Jail

A spokesperson for the Santa Cruz County Jail said their lobby has finally reopened.  Sheriff's officials said the lobby was first closed about a year ago after a shift in the building's foundation damaged the facilitiy's windows and flooring.  Tiles began to buckle and popped out of place, they said and fire crews initially speculated the damage could have been related to a gas or water leak.  An evacuation plan was formulated to move inmates, if needed, although jail officials say they were happy it was not necessary.
