Plans for North County Jail Move Forward

The main jail in Santa Barbara has been dealing with inmate overcrowding. Each day, there are almost 1,000 inmates being housed there.

A report says that the plan to move forward with a new North County Jail in Santa Barbara County has been approved by the Board of Supervisors.

The North County Jail will allow 400 inmates to be transferred out of main jail facility.

Plans for the new jail will place it on the corner of Black and Betteravia Roads in Santa Maria. It will also be designed to blend in with the Mission-style buildings that will surround it instead of …

The Santa Barbara County jail system consists of the Main Jail, the Santa Maria Substation and the Medium Security Facility (formerly known as the "Honor Farm").
