$100,000 cash found at San Jose Burger King

A Burger King employee had the shock of her life last week when she found an abandoned backpack near one of the fast food restaurant's tables.

It was just another normal day, according to sources, and it seemed that a patron had randomly left the item behind.  But when the owner of the franchise took a peek inside, he never imagined he'd find roughly $100,000 in cash.

Piles of $50s, stacks of $100s

The assistant manager said she first spotted the bag while she was wiping down tables on Wednesday; she didn't think too much of it at first and figured the owner would come back to retrieve it.  But, when that didn't happen, she notified her boss.

The owner of the store said he came to the US more than 25 years ago and worked very hard to save enough money to buy a fast food franchise store.  He figured the money must belong to someone, which is why he reached out to the San Jose Police Department.

Investigators say they're still a bit baffled as to how the backpack's owner forgot $100,000 at a Burger King.  When they looked inside the bag to find clues, all they found was some candy, some marijuana, a bank slip and some cigarettes.

The mystery as to who owns the money and how they came to forget it at the restaurant still remains a mystery.
