The Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department has said they have successfully captured a man who is believed to have burglarized an Isla Vista apartment. Defendant Oliver Lim was captured early this morning. Authorities say that Lim is an 18 year-old college student who is attending class at Santa Barbara City College.
At the time of his capture Lim was reportedly found to be in possession of numerous stolen items. These included but were not limited to cash, credit cards, a flat-screen television, prescription medication and checks. Deputies say he may also be tied to other similar crimes in the area. One witness has positively identified Lim as being the perpetrator seen leaving the Isla Vista residence.
Sheriff's deputies were first called to the scene of that home when it was realized that an unknown man was seen breaking in to an apartment. The burglar fled on foot at the time squad cars arrived. Deputies proceeded to engage the man in a foot chase. He was captured a short time later and was transported to the Santa Barbara County jail to be booked and processed into the system. Bail information was not immediately disclosed although it is believed defendant Lim may have been charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and receiving stolen property. His bail was likely set between $20,000 and $30,000.
It is unclear whether Lim hired an Isla Vista bail bonds company to bond him out prior to his arraignment. The matter is ongoing.
